Pretty much all of my second semester at Anacapa Middle School was stressing over which high school to go to. Well maybe not all of it, but definitely most of it because I was pretty excited to just get out of middle school. The problem was - I just didn’t know which high school to go to. I already knew that Buena had the worst education and Foothill had best, but the deciding factor for me was where all of my friends were going, which was either Ventura or Buena and definitely not Foothill since as far as I was aware of I only knew like two people going there. In the end I was mainly thinking about college and I knew my application would look a lot better if I went to a technology school like Foothill, so that’s where I decided I wanted to go.
It was pretty hard deciding which one of three high schools to go to, but I asked a lot of friends and said,” I want to go to high school with you, but my best chance at college would be to go to a high school with a better education like Foothill, so where do you think I should I go?” But I mostly just got replies like,” I don’t know,” or whichever school they were going to. And since that didn’t help much I remembered that my AVID teacher said that the best schools with AVID were FTHS and VHS, and since I felt that AVID was a pretty essential thing to help me get into a college, that narrowed my decision down to just those two schools. Luckily I made that decision on the very last day to turn applications in, so I filled one out to go to Foothill and thought that if I got accepted I would go there and if not I would go to Ventura. And what encouraged me even more was that I found out that some of my really good friends like Cody, Luis, Guillermo, etc. were also applying for Foothill.
I’ve seen Foothill before and knew it was pretty small, but with all 9th-12th graders in the yard at once it was even more cramped than I’d imagined. And orientation was sort of fun because all we did all day was play games in the cafeteria and with our FIRE leaders. But, I did have a lot of trouble with the block schedule and where I could find all of my classes, so I had to keep my schedule and my map of the campus in my pocket for like the first three weeks of school, and one time I even sat down in a classroom full of seniors because I went into the wrong science class.
So far, I don’t have any regrets about coming here and I can definitely see why people say this is a really good school. All the teachers I’ve met so far are really nice and friendly and sometimes even let you use your earphones. And everyone here is really well behaved because barely anyone ever talks unless the teacher tells you to. And the only thing that bothers me is that there is always tons of biology homework, but I’m sure every other high school has that problem too.
In conclusion, I think I made the right choice when I decided to go to Foothill instead of Ventura or Buena.
